UK Authorities Wanting Mandatory Sex Education for 15 year olds!

I still remember my time at Heaton Intermediate School at the time Sex Education was introduced into the School curriculum.  At the time, parents were allowed to choose whether their children stayed and played along with the frivolities, who spend a period doing… well, pretty much nothing.

As you should be able to perceive from one’s answer, I am talking from experience… much ado doing nothing, that is.  I was the only individual from my class, and I believe one of the few in the school whose parents pulled their child out, as they believed it was their parental responsibility for such matters!  Maybe the UK authorities might consider the notion!

It was not an issue for me at the time, and I believe it has not been an issue subsequently, adversely affecting my ability to exemplify the first signs of my strength… I have three boys I will have you know!

Whether you agree or not that in a societal context, such decisions may be warranted, such an age digression is certainly pointed.  Before you think I am some old fuddy duddy, take a look at those photos again… yeaha!  I am the father of a 15-16 year old who, how shall I put it, seems to attract some unwanted attention [from my perspective anyway], and we have had very frank [I have put a costume on to fit the part] discussions about sex, its significance, physically, relationally, and spiritually, so I am aware that at this age, it is a societal reality that too many children… too many young people are moving in the sexual direction!

Therefore, while the lowering of the age does concern me, I also understand that taking a societal view of this issue, where there are many young people from familial contexts, where parents have abdicated responsibility long ago, which means someone is left to pick up the tab… and it is not a better bet, means that certain decisions must be broached!  But is this the best place, and the best time?

Will this decision make any impact and any dent in solving the issue, or will it just make the reprobates forewarned and therefore forearmed for frivolous fornication, as they now know too much [like they didn't before you say]?  Is this the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, a sign that a culture is giving up on putting a fence at the top, such as seeking to focus and build strong parental units, where the family is once again viewed as being the foundation from which the societal outgrowth is built upon!

In a perfect world, it would be the parents job… well, technically, their would be no job, but you get the point!  Or, is that just it, this world smacks us in the face everyday as we observe its absurd reality of its theoretical paradise losing once again!  This world sux, and this just another plan to deal with it!

and, why am I asking you so many questions?… Because I believe in you reader… don’t let me down!

To carry on the previous line of questioning, is wanting to limit this until a higher age, just a romantic notion this side of the fall?  I am sure you have heard about the good old days… Were they really good back then Granddad?  How did Adam’s fall from grace outwork itself in your generation?  When we think theologically, while the names may have changed and the expression thereof, the human heart is a restless beast that will get its fill, one way or another!

I really didn’t plan to say too much on this subject… just cut and paste… job done!  Stop Laughing… that was no Joke!

Therefore, as I reflect, and think through the various trajectories of thought on this issue, what I am most concerned about is the obligatory nature of this decision.  I am sorry, but in my world, God has given me my very own set of pants to wear, and in such matters, the state is a fashion victim, as it is my catwalk, not theirs, and I walk on!

Yes, completing such a decision at such an age, may very well empower the depravity with ideas that are covenanted for one man and one woman, but such is not primary as I think through the issues at hand… although I struggle to let go, and let Dog, cause they ain’t no God in my world… the state that is!

Have a read of this article and let me know your thoughts on the matter.  I know I have one school teacher who is a regular reader, so I am interested to hear such a take on this issue, particularly as one integrates biblical convictions in such a context!

After all, would the state be happy if I foisted the morality in my worldview onto them, and made them walk to my mad drum beat?  Isn’t this what they are proposing to do in the UK, in not allowing parents to exempt their children?  Isn’t this the bigger issue?

I know William Wallace was a Scot, and not like the character in the movie, but Freeeedooooooom!

Unload the freight of your mind onto the loading dock of this blog and we will enjoy its contents together… Speak up… I don’t bite… not the first time, anyway!

Until Next Time

  1. Where does one begin on this topic.

Firstly, I believe it is the parent responsibility to raise a child. That includes everything from reading, to sport, to cooking, to sex education. The reason that this country is in such a mess is that parents neglect this responsibility.

In saying that something needs to be done for the high sex rate with young people in every country in the world. Most countries try and achieve something through education. The reality is this doesn’t work. To really stop the issue ban MTV,take a hard line on tv shows, stop sex filled adverts etc. i.e if we as a society really believe it is a problem we need to take a hard line on almost every aspect of society. Sadly, this is too hard a line for most people. Most people dont believe they are part of the problem, when in fact it is everyones problem. We believe that ‘what I do at home is my business’. Never has a more false statement been said and our society suffers everyday by the poor choices people make at home. So instead of dealing with the real issue the Governement does the easy option and passes the buck to the education sector.

Having taught in Britain I think they will do okay at a sex education prog for 15 year olds. They have more of a Christian foundation then we have in New Zelaand and hopefully that would come through in the curriculum. Here in NZ we are a different kettle of fish. Family Planning run the majority of sex education classes in New Zealand high Schools. In my view they are one of the most damaging groups in our society
( for my view on Family Planning click here – http://ozymandiaswarning.com/2009/08/31/sex-ed-in-new-zealand-time-for-a-change/)

Therefore if this same law came into effect in NZ I would worry. Christian and faith groups would be up in arms and while that was happening those at Family Planning would be writing the Curriculum. I would suggest that rather than arguing we get people on the boards that make the decisions and start making some good choices for our young people.

This is very rushed but all I have time for

    Cheers
    Ozy

Thanks for your input Oz, it is much appreciated.

I would also encourage any readers to give the piece Ozy has hyperlinked on his blog, as it will inform many readers about Family Planning practices that are happening in NZ!

Here it is again… It is sadly illuminating about what is being foisted on our youth by such groups…

“Get people on the boards”… Oz, this could be self-fulfilling for “maximising mischief” blogger!

Thanks for your time… I know, I am about to go and study as well!!!

    Hi,

I read someone somewhere in the Internet jungle said something like this

There is no such thing as “what you do privately in your home is none of my business” because what you do privately in your home soon becomes what you do in public, becomes what you do on TV, becomes what you do on magazines, becomes public parade event, becomes part of my children’s school curriculum, becomes part of the law in my country

  4. Bobster says:

“I know William Wallace was a Scot, and not like the character in the movie, but Freeeedooooooom!”

    Hey, you’re stealing my line!

  5. Jonny says:

Hey “the Bobster”… Good to hear from you again…

What you said reminds me of the portion of Scripture, “out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” [Luke 6:45b].

In other words, what is kept in the dark, generally gets out into the light, however, not necessarily the exact expression, or the exact form.

Whether it be for good or evil, whatever the expression of these realities in our lives that we complete in private, is not some disconnected entity from our reality, as this will outwork itself in our lives, which is another way of saying that the process of sanctification or corruption is not merely a set of individually isolated events, but has an inter-connectedness of chronologically morphing moments!

Romans 1:18-25 affirms the process of devil-like devolution!

  6. Jonny says:

Bobster… all is fair in love and… blogging!

I will do my best to ” ” you, next time!
