Pop Theology Speaks: Bear Grylls – Man vs Wild

Our soon-to-be five year old, Jesse, who you can see in the Pictures of a Thousand Words page, is a big fan of Man vs Wild, and we have been frequenting ourselves in allowing him to stay up a little late on certain occasions and watch Man vs Wild with Mum vs Wild, I mean Dad.

While we were watching Bear do his thing, he uttered the following refrain, in a moment of reflection…

I almost say that half the battle of survival is being able to keep your hopes up and your spirits alive.  There’s a little picture of my family that I always keep with me… wherever I go… I keep it laminated in the sole of my boot.

When one is facing trials and challenges, when life hits you, particularly when it feels like a Job-Mack-truck, it is imperative that one is able to keep one’s hopes us and spirits alive, not ultimately because something will be implanted in the sole of one’s foot [although that can also be a means of God's grace], but ultimately, because the life of the ultimate Someone who is resurrected in the soul-life of one’s being [Galatians 2:20] is being ever realised in continually greater measure, as the Source that has given us everything we need [2 Peter 1:3], as a means of experiencing His grace [2 Corinthians 12:1-10], even when life gets as dark as Psalm 88:1-18, remembering such a time has a purpose [Hebrews 5:8]!

Until Next Time
