Home / Not Too Verbose / Bradford and McCoy Know They Are Second!
Coming to this post, it may surprise the reader that this blogging individual has been inculcated to really speak another sporting language, as the sporting fascination for our little piece of paradise… lost, is the game of Rugby Union.
In the land of the long white cloud, Aotearoa, New Zealand, our national rugby team, known as the All Blacks, casts a long shadow when the warrior poets, Braveheart, speak with brutal clarity. Nevertheless, I am a sports guy and have and do enjoy all the Nth American sports that many of my readers… God willing, find so enjoyable.
If I was able, I was thinking that a good watch would be to catch the USC vs Notre Dame in College Football, as such seems like it could be a game worth the time thus spent [and all the Southern men grunt]!
However, there is also another game taking place this weekend that has caught my interest, which is the Long Horns vs the Sooners, Texas vs Oklahoma, and while I was made “sportscenter” aware of this game, the reason it has peeked my interest relates to the faith of the two star players in this game, Sam ‘I have one Heisman” Bradford for the Sooners and Colt “I may get one soon” McCoy for the Long Horns, and thanks to Michael Patton’s facebook friendship, I was made aware of some more additions to the IamSecond site that I am Jonny King has already spoken about Here!
It just so happens that both Bradford and McCoy are made-good men because of Christ, committed to put Jesus First, seeking to glorify Him in what they do and where He has placed them.
You should check out what they have to say, and while you are there, check out some of the other quality videos on this site!
While I am on College Football, it was interesting to read that someone has taken a shot at Tim “homeschooling is not just for freaks… and I have a Heisman too” Tebow, another Quarterback, who plays for the National Champion Florida Gators, who is also another follower of Christ.
Thanks to Justin Taylor, who has linked to Erik Raymond and Kevin Deyoung, who have commented on the “cheap” context of this shot taken at a guy who is not afraid to go wildcat on and off the field [Postscript: I also see that Al Mohler and Denny Burk have also commented on this... wait, one more, Zach Nielson]!
As someone far from this cultural context, I am stoked to see these guys, who many people idolise, point to and worship the One who is worth and worthy of so much more!
As I write, the big Oklahoma vs Texas Game is still some 24 hours away, and as they prepare for battle and you prepare for watching, may those thus elected to the ultimate team take the time to reflect and to know that the most important war has already been won.
May these two quarterbacks [Tim Tebow as well] for Christ play in such a way that affirms this reality in the way they play, which puts the close-up on the Cross, which was and is the arena where the greatest comeback [from a human perspective] victory the world has ever “scene” was signed, sealed and delivered… It is Finished!
Truly the greatest show on Turf!
Until Next Time
I am Jonny King
As a Postscript: Can I encourage all the North American readers to go and watch some Rugby Union… Maybe even the All Blacks [New Zealand] vs. the Springboks [South Africa]. If you enjoy the physicality in a battle, then watch these men, with little more than a shirt on, put their bodies on the line, for a joy that is being set forth before them!
Here is a recent article that comments about Charles Barkley speaking about the physical impact in the collisions in AFL, as they don’t wear pads, and certainly don’t get paid enough… He should watch some Union, where the size of players, the hits, and the collisions are all bigger!
I have not had a look at any of these clips, but here is a Youtube page of AB’s vs Springbok possibilities… Enjoy!
